Lilian Gunawan, LMSW

Mental Health Therapist

"I believe in the village that it takes to raise a child, and want to make sure my clients don't feel alone on the journey."

Lilian Gunawan loves working in the field of perinatal and postpartum mental health. She is passionate about supporting people during their transition to parenthood and the challenges this can bring about.

In addition to her work as a mental health therapist, Lilian contributes as a volunteer on a postpartum helpline, facilitating online support groups, mentoring new parents, and more.

Lilian Gunawan is a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) practicing psychotherapy under the supervision of Megan McLaughlin, LCSW-C.

She believes in supporting individuals in whatever struggles they are going through by holding space for them in a compassionate and non-judgmental way. By helping people to reflect and to find their individual strengths, Lilian supports them in building new skills and habits for personal growth, so that they can live the life they envision for themselves.

Lilian specializes in mental health issues in the perinatal/postpartum population and individuals who struggle with fertility or perinatal loss. This includes perinatal mood disorders and challenges, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar, panic disorder, and trauma.

Depending on a client’s needs and personality, she applies methods that combine mind and body strategies to build healthy habits and coping mechanisms. She finds that strategies to balance the nervous system in combination with building tolerance for distress, plus perspective shifting skills, can help tremendously during stressful times!

Lilian lives in the DC area with her family, and two fluffy lop-eared bunnies. They are a multi-cultural family who love being out in nature, traveling to new places, exploring food, and hanging out with friends and family.

rior to this work Lilian has lived in different countries in Europe and Asia, and has enjoyed living both on the East and West coast of the US.  She also cherishes her early work in
international development in poor communities in Asia to alleviate poverty and foster social development.
