Postpartum Group Therapy in Baltimore

The Afterglow: Postpartum Depression & Anxiety Therapeutic Support Group

The Afterglow is a therapeutic group offering support and treatment for people experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety after having a baby. Groups of up to 10 people will meet with a Licensed Therapist who guides the group over 8 weeks of sessions, with take-home reflections.

Research shows that 80% of birthing people experience the "Baby Blues", while 20% experience Postpartum Depression or Anxiety Disorders.

Becoming a Parent for the first time is a complete body and mind transition that society rarely speaks of.

The reality can often look very different from what was expected.

While so many experience the "Baby Blues", such as rapidly changing moods, tearfulness and overwhelm for the first couple of weeks after giving birth, symptoms that persist past the first two weeks postpartum could be a sign of something more serious.

Symptoms of Postpartum Depression & Anxiety can include:

  • Sadness

  • Crying spells

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Appetite disturbances

  • Irritability, anger or rage

  • Guilt or shame

  • Hopelessness or helplessness

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Difficulty connecting with your baby

  • Constant worry

  • Feeling that something bad is about to happen

  • Racing thoughts

  • Restlessness

  • Dizziness, hot flashes, nausea

  • Intrusive/scary thoughts
