Lactation Counselors (CLC) and Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) are both breastfeeding specialists that help people with most common breastfeeding concerns.
Lactation Consultants have a much more extensive certification program, in terms of the number of education and clinical hours, exams, and ongoing training requirements for upkeep of the certification.
Because of this additional training and experience, Lactation Counselors are expert at helping families, and are able to help you with advanced lactation needs.
Are lactation consultants covered by insurance?
Due to the patriarchal and profiteering nature of our healthcare system, insurances unfortunately still do not recognize just how necessary and valuable Lactation Consultants are to a thriving family.
We are doing everything we can to make Lactation support accessible and affordable, and look forward to the day that it is recognized as an "essential" service to making sure that babies are off on the right start. While we are not in network with insurance for lacatation services, we provide superbills that allow you to request reimbursement from your insurance companies.
What if I have trouble affording feeding help?
The Womb Room believes that everyone deserves quality lactation support, regardless of their financial situation. This is why we offer a FREE Lactation & Feeding Support Group led by our team of expert Lactation Consultants.
We also work with our clients that need more individualized support, to ensure they have all of the necessary documentation to seek reimbursement from their insurance companies. Contact us if you need help.
