About Miriam Pokharel-Wood
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Social Worker (MSW)
Miriam has been a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2018. She has been working with parents and children for over 10 years as a lactation educator, doula, social worker and therapist. She has worked with breast and chestfeeding families in New York, Kathmandu, Nepal, San Francisco and now Maryland.
Miriam's emphasis on parental mental and physical health, and commitment to realistic care-planning was born during her own difficult breastfeeding experience. Her baby's latch struggles led to an eventual decision to exclusively pump and bottle-feed, for the sake of her mental health and family's wellness. It was a heart breaking decision, but in the end proved to have many positives, including the ability to donate breastmilk to infants in need.
Miriam brings a commitment to mental health, compassion and empathy to her work as a lactation consultant, and specializes in difficult breast/chest feeding journeys, exclusive pumping and grief.
Miriam lives in Columbia with her husband and son. When she's not geeking out about lactation, she can be found gardening or crafting (ceramics, needlework, painting, you name it!). She is currently working on transitioning her yard to a native plant meadow. 🌱
