About Amanda
Birth Doula
Amanda Selsky is a professionally trained birth doula who offers compassionate, evidence-based support for birthing people and their partners, centering trust, presence, and partnership. With a background in art and education, Amanda brings a grounded, intuitive approach to her doula practice.
Before birth, Amanda meets with each client to discuss their individual needs, preferences, and goals so they feel prepared, informed, and empowered. She is also available throughout pregnancy as a trusted resource for questions, guidance, and support. During labor and birth, Amanda provides continuous emotional and physical support, offering comfort measures such as creating a calming environment, breathing techniques, position changes, counterpressure, and more. Following birth, she offers compassionate, affirming care as families adjust to this new chapter. Together, they debrief the birth experience, check in on emotions, sleep, recovery, needs, and goals, all while ensuring clients feel heard and supported.
Amanda earned her B.A. in English from the University of Virginia in 2017 before following her love of stories into the classroom. She later received her M.A. in Elementary Inclusive Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and taught in both general and special education settings in Colorado.
After moving back to the East Coast in 2024 to be closer to family, Amanda was inspired by the mothers in her life and the advocacy work of birth doulas to pursue professional birth doula training. Building on her experience in education, she brings a strong foundation in family advocacy, active listening, and calm, clear communication. Amanda is especially passionate about building trusting relationships with her clients so they feel informed, supported, and truly seen as they make decisions about their care.
Amanda's background as an artist also shapes the way she holds space for families, bringing creativity, emotional attunement, and thoughtful responsiveness to every birth experience.
Outside of birth work, Amanda is a fiber artist who enjoys using natural dyes from plants and flowers to transform upcycled fabrics into quilts. When she isn't working on a quilt, she can often be found hiking with her dog, Juniper.
